Privacy Policy

Speaking Lab Pro (“we,” “us,” or “the Service”) provides TOEFL Speaking diagnostic and practice tools. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Service, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the website, the practice platform, and the teacher/administrator portal.

Speaking Lab Pro is an independent test-preparation product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which administers the official TOEFL exam. Nothing collected here is shared with ETS.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the Service, we collect:

• Account information — name, a student or account identifier, and a password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text). If your account was created through a school or instructor, we also store the access code used to register.
• Voice recordings — audio you record while completing Listen & Repeat and Interview practice items. This is the core input our diagnostic scoring runs on.
• Transcripts and performance data — automated transcriptions of your recordings, the scores and feedback generated from them, and your history of attempts and progress over time.
• Preferences — your selected interface (Support) language and display settings.
• Technical data — standard web request logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and reliability.

How we use your information

• To score and diagnose your spoken responses and generate the reports and drills you see.
• To track your progress across sessions so trend and history features work.
• To let an instructor or institution you’re enrolled under see your results and assign practice — this is a core function of the teacher portal, not incidental data sharing.
• To maintain, secure, and improve the Service, including diagnosing bugs and abuse.
• To communicate with you about your account when necessary (e.g., a password reset).

We do not use your recordings, transcripts, or performance data for advertising, and we do not sell personal information to third parties, ever.

Voice recordings, specifically

Because voice is sensitive personal data, it gets its own section. Your recordings are processed by automated speech-analysis infrastructure we operate, solely to produce your transcript and score. That processing may run on third-party cloud compute we contract with — the same way any app that stores files runs on cloud storage — but those providers are data processors acting on our instructions, not independent recipients of your data, and they are not permitted to use your recordings for their own purposes, including training their own general-purpose AI models.

Recordings and their transcripts are retained for as long as your account is active, so your history and progress trends remain available to you. If you delete your account, we delete the associated recordings within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain records (for example, an institution’s academic record-keeping obligations).

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one to remember your selected Support Language. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics scripts that follow you across other websites.

Who we share information with

• Your instructor or institution, if you registered under one — they can see the results and recordings tied to their own students.
• Service providers who host our infrastructure, store audio files, and run speech analysis on our behalf, bound to use data only to provide that service to us.
• Legal or safety reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Speaking Lab Pro, our users, or the public.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party marketing.

Your rights and choices

You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data, by contacting us at the address below. If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or a jurisdiction with similar data protection law (such as California), you may have additional rights under that law, including the right to object to certain processing and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for TOEFL candidates, typically university applicants and working professionals, and is not directed at children under 13. If you are a school or institution enrolling younger students, you are responsible for obtaining any parental or guardian consent required by law in your jurisdiction before creating accounts for them.

Security

We transmit data over encrypted connections and store passwords as salted hashes rather than plain text. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders directly.
